British Columbia's coastal waters offer some of the best diving sites in the world, consistently receiving top ratings from scuba divers around the world. In fact, subscribers to Rodale's Scuba Diving gave B.C. perfect scores for top overall destination in 2003. The marine life is hailed as some of the most diverse and colourful in North America, including pods of orca whales, white-sided dolphins, sea lions, wolf eels, giant Pacific octopus, brilliant anemones, and the rare six-gill shark, as well as Dungeness crabs and prawns. Divers can make their way along rock walls covered in bright starfish and through huge kelp forests, marvelling at the size and abundance of ocean plant life. The B.C. coast is also a very safe, protected, and accessible diving region.
